I know it’s not my PC because its specs go way beyond what Minecraft requires (Core i5 8300H @2.3 GHz quad core, 8 GB memory, GTX 1050 Ti graphics). I know it is Minecraft because other games that are much more graphics-intensive (like CS: GO) run fine.

Minecraft runs funky even on higher-end computers, it’s just because of how the game’s built. From my understanding Java’s only partially to blame, the lag’s mostly an affect of the game constantly rendering and being RAM speed intensive. They’ve sorta remedied the situation by adding in OpenGL rendering, but it honestly doesn’t help that much.

Right now, my build can handle most games no problem as well, but with my 3570k processor @4.4GHz, I am unable to run Minecraft over 20 render distance smoothly, even though I have a GTX 760. Open task manager and look at your CPU usage, I would say that if runs over 85% or so, then your processor is the bottleneck, causing your framerate issues.

I also suggest using the Optifine mod (usable on servers, too) if you’re not already, as it generally does help clear up a lot of lag. Because for a game thats still being updated for over 10 years now, and a popular one at that, Minecraft isn’t really very well optimized.

if possible, you could look at the memory usage with Task Manager. Either CTRL + ALT + DELETE and choose task manager, or in taskbar right click and Task Manager should be like fourth from bottom. In Task Manager open the Performance tab and look at it when you open Minecraft to see which one goes to 100%.

Your internet connection could be the reason for the Minecraft lagging issue. Your geography location, ISP service could affect stability. If this is the reason for your latency, you need to speed up your internet. Games keep releasing new patches, so do hardware manufacturers.

Why can’t I run Minecraft smoothly on my GPU?

Sometimes the drivers won’t recognize Minecraft as a game and won’t give it the horsepower needed to run smoothly. This is just my guess, I’m not an expert by any means. My utilisation of the GPU is only at 20-30% but from my understanding, Minecraft is a CPU intensive game.
