How to increase render distance in minecraft realms

If the render distance is 10, then a 20×20=400 chunk area is visible. Increasing the render distance to 20 would mean that a 40×40=1600 chunk area is visible. So, doubling the render distance quadruples the server load. But, say, at least a 50% increase in render distance should be feasible.

popup appeared, rather than letting me into the realm. I was eventually able to get in, but now the render distance seems to be stuck at 16 or less, when just the night before I had 32 chunks. I have 32 chunks in single player and my friend seems to be having the same problem and has no option to increase the view distance on the realm.

Drag the bar to the amount of chunks and there you go In an attempt to increase the view distance you may have opened the menu of the game and adjusted the render distance value there.
